How to block YouTube ads in Chrome
- Install BingeLift from the Chrome Web Store.
- Open youtube.com and click BingeLift in Chrome’s toolbar to see your eight YouTube controls.
- Refresh YouTube after changing Video ads or Shorts ads. The other six controls apply straight away.

YouTube ad blocker not working? Try these fixes
YouTube changes often, so start with the card that matches what you see.
A video ad still played
Check that YouTube and its Video ads control are on, then refresh. Video ads only change after a refresh, and ads that still appear are skipped or muted.
A Shorts ad appeared
Check that Shorts ads is on and refresh YouTube. Like Video ads, this control applies after a refresh.
A banner or sponsored card is still showing
Check that the matching control is on. These controls apply straight away, so if one stays visible, YouTube may have changed its layout. Tell us where it appeared.
YouTube says ad blockers are not allowed
Refresh first. If the warning stays, turn off Video ads and refresh again. Read what to do about YouTube’s ad blocker message for all the options.
A video will not play
Turn off Video ads and refresh. If it still will not play, switch BingeLift off for YouTube and check that no other ad blocker is running on YouTube at the same time.
An embedded video or the YouTube app shows ads
BingeLift works on youtube.com in Chrome on your computer. YouTube videos embedded on other websites have not been tested, and it cannot change the YouTube app.
